Earthworm Farming Step-by-Step Checklist For Beginners or Kids 

🌍 What Is a Worm Farm? 

Worms eat food scraps:
♻️ Scraps turn into plant food (compost) 
👃 No bad smells if done right 
🌱 Helps plants and the Earth 

🏠 Step 1: Pick the Right Place 

Put your worm farm somewhere:

🌤️ Shady – east facing 
🌡️ Not too hot or cold 
🚫 Out of direct sun

Good places:

🍽️ Kitchen corner
🌿 Patio
🚗 Garage
🧺 Laundry room 

✔️ Best temperature: 25–30°C 

🛏️ Step 2: Make a Comfy Bed 

Bedding is the worms’ home. Add:

📰 Wet shredded newspaper
📦 Soaked cardboard
🍂 Dry leaves / old compost
🥚 Crushed eggshells (monthly) 

💧 Bedding should feel like a wrung-out sponge 

🍎 Step 3: Feed the Worms 

Feed small amounts only.

👍 Worms like:
🍌 Fruit peels
🥕 Vegetable scraps
☕ Coffee grounds
🍵 Tea bags
🥬 Lettuce leaves
🍞 Stale bread 

🚫 Worms do NOT like:
🥩 Meat
🧀 Dairy
🛢️ Oily food
🌶️ Spicy food 

👉 Bury food under bedding
⏳ Wait until old food is mostly gone 

👀 Step 4: Check Your Worms 

📅 Check once a week 

✔️ Bedding damp
✔️ No bad smells
✔️ Worms staying inside 

⚠️ If it smells bad → too much food
⚠️ If worms escape → too hot or too wet 

♻️ Step 5: Collect Worm Compost 

⏰ After 3–6 months: 

⬆️ Worms move up to new food 
⬇️ Compost stays behind 
🧤 Scoop out dark, crumbly compost 

Use the vermi-compost in your:

🌱 Pot plants 
🌼 Garden beds 
🌾 Lawn soil

🚿 Step 6: Use Worm Tea 

Worm tea = liquid from bottom tray 

How to use:
🥄 1 tablespoon worm tea
💧 1 litre water
🌿 Water plants or spray leaves 

✔️ Safe for plants
✔️ Helps plants grow strong 

➗ Step 7: Too Many Worms? 

After about 6 months, worms may be crowded 

You can:
➕ Start a new worm farm
🌳 Put some worms in the garden
🤝 Share worms with a friend
